Removing Candle Wax from Carpet & Upholstery

October is leading to Halloween and then closely followed by Bonfire night a few days later in November. Both of these are times when candles are used in the home. Halloween Pumpkin lanterns and scented candles are great for adding character to parties and evenings with friends.

Drips of candle wax on the carpet or sofas and chairs can easily occur, but how should you remove them?

Don’t do anything until the wax has cooled back into its hardened state, then follow these instructions:

1 Scrape off the hardened wax using a palette knife. If you are lucky, it should lift off quite easily, leaving behind a waxy stain.

2 Then put a folded sheet of kitchen roll over the mark and a tea towel over the top and use a warm iron over the stain, to melt the wax and allow it to soak into the kitchen roll.

3 You may need to repeat with a new sheet of kitchen roll until the whole stain is gone. If the material is colourfast, add a drop of cleaning solvent to remove any waxy residue and blot until dry.
