Carpets Damaged by Leaks & Floods

How to restore carpets damaged by water leaks or storm floods in Leicester & Loughborough

The current storms and floods or water leaks and plumbing problems can lead to mould growing in your carpets. A small amount of water can give concerns about mould spores, and leaving it to grow can do an expensive amount of harm – especially in dark spaces with little natural light.

When you turn on the heating in cold weather, the warmth and humidity can quickly lead to mould and mildew.

Dry Water Leaks or Floods Quickly

Successful drying can prevent mould from growing, especially under the carpet in the hessian backing. This can cause a variety of health problems, irritating the nose, eyes throat and lungs, particularly in susceptible people who suffer from hay fever, asthma and allergies.

Fans and dehumidifiers can speed up the drying process and circulate fresh air, but keep them going for at least 24 hours AFTER you think the carpet is fully dry.

Professionally Clean Carpet and Flooring

A good professional clean will then remove any mould spores that have started to breed, as well as other bacteria such as MRSA.

Move the furniture around so that areas of carpet under the sofa or armchairs gets a chance to dry out fully, and don’t forget the areas under any rugs.
